A few things to know before we make plans
Good Company is designed to make social connection easier, more comfortable, and more enjoyable. These policies help keep expectations clear for everyone so we can focus on the good part: conversation, outings, and connection.
Who Good Company is for
Good Company provides strictly platonic social companionship for adults age 18 and older.
Services may include conversation, coffee or meals, museums and galleries, shopping, neighborhood exploring, walks, gentle hikes, cultural events, performances, and other mutually agreed social activities.
Good Company is not a dating service, escort service, caregiving service, transportation service, therapy practice, counseling service, or medical provider.
First meetup
Before a first booking, new clients meet with me for a complimentary coffee or tea meetup of up to 45 minutes in a public location.
The purpose is simply to get acquainted and make sure the fit feels comfortable on both sides.
There is no obligation to book afterward.
Good Company reserves the right to decline future bookings following an introductory meeting. Clients are equally free to decide the service is not right for them.
The Client Services Agreement
Before your first booking, you will sign the Client Services Agreement, Acknowledgment of Risk, and Limited Release of Liability.
It sets out what this service is and is not, and it applies to every outing, not only walks, hikes, or other outdoor activities.
These Terms & Policies form part of that agreement. The agreement incorporates them by reference, and I give you a copy of both together, so that the rates, cancellation windows, and refund terms set out here are part of what you are agreeing to. If anything in these policies conflicts with the agreement, the agreement controls.
I will send it to you after our complimentary meetup. You are welcome to take as much time with it as you like, and to read it with a family member, friend, or attorney before you sign.
No booking is confirmed until the signed agreement is back with me. This is the same for every new client.
If a guardian, conservator, or attorney-in-fact manages your affairs, that representative should review and sign the agreement alongside you.
Booking requests
Bookings may be requested online or by text.
A booking request is not automatically confirmed. I review each request before accepting it.
Once a booking is approved, you will receive approval and a Square invoice. For a first booking, the signed Client Services Agreement must also be in hand before the booking is confirmed.
I may decline a booking based on availability, location, activity, safety considerations, scope of service, or personal fit.
Rates and minimum booking
$40 per hour
Two-hour minimum for in-person outings.
One-hour minimum for virtual body doubling.
Rates for unusually long outings, travel outside the Portland area, or special events may be discussed before booking.
Any different rate will always be agreed upon in advance.
Payment
Payment is due in advance in order to confirm a booking.
Payment is made through Square.
A booking is not considered confirmed until payment has been received.
What the booking fee covers
The booking fee covers my reserved time and company for the period you have booked.
It is not tied to any particular activity happening.
If plans change partway through — you would rather sit and talk than finish the walk, or the gallery turns out to be closed — that is completely fine. I am yours for the rest of the booked time, and nothing about the fee changes.
Outing expenses
When an outing includes tickets, admission fees, activity fees, or a meal that is part of the planned experience, the client is responsible for those costs for both of us.
Wherever practical, I will ask you to buy tickets and admissions directly from the venue. That keeps your money with the vendor, so any refund follows the venue’s own policy rather than mine.
I cover my own parking and my own transportation.
Any expected costs will be discussed in advance whenever reasonably possible.
If additional optional expenses arise during an outing, we will agree on them before they are incurred. Declining an optional expense is always fine and never affects our plans.
If I advance money on your behalf, the advance will not exceed $100 unless we have agreed otherwise in writing beforehand. I pass the cost through exactly as I paid it, with the receipt, and never add a markup.
I keep a short log of each outing — where we went, any tickets or meals that were part of it, roughly what they cost, who paid, and whether you covered my admission or meal. Where I have paid for something and been reimbursed, I keep the receipt as well.
Because you usually buy tickets directly from the venue, I will not always have a receipt for those. The log is written up the same day, so it is an accurate record of what an outing involved and what it cost. You can ask to see it at any time, and so can a family member or representative you name in writing.
If an outing does not happen and a ticket I bought for you is non-refundable, the ticket is yours and I will pass it along.
If you bought a ticket for me and the outing does not happen, that ticket is yours as well. I will not use it separately.
Cancellations and refunds
Plans change, and I understand.
If you cancel
24 hours or more before the scheduled start time: full refund of the booking fee.
Less than 24 hours before the scheduled start time: 50% refund of the booking fee.
No-shows are non-refundable.
If you end a booking early
If you decide to end the booking within the first 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, and no expenses have been incurred, I will treat it the same as a late cancellation: 50% refund of the booking fee.
After that point, the booking fee is not refunded. The time was reserved for you and is not available to anyone else.
Choosing to stop or change an activity is not the same as ending the booking. You can always decline an activity, and I will stay with you for the rest of the booked time.
If I cancel
You receive a full refund of the booking fee.
If weather or unsafe conditions prevent the outing
If severe weather, poor air quality, unsafe conditions, venue closures, transit disruptions, or another circumstance outside our control makes an outing impractical, I will offer to reschedule first.
If you would rather not reschedule, or we cannot find a workable date, you receive a full refund of the booking fee.
If I end an outing early because of conduct
If I end an outing because of threatening, harassing, sexually inappropriate, abusive, or discriminatory behavior, or because intoxication has created a genuine safety concern, the booking fee is not refunded.
If I end an outing early for any other reason, the unused time is refunded.
What these refunds cover
Everything in this section refers to the booking fee only.
Tickets, admissions, meals, and other outing expenses follow the venue’s or vendor’s own refund policy, together with the Outing expenses section above.
Refunds are issued to the original payment method and generally appear within 4 to 14 business days.
Late arrivals
If you arrive late, I will still be happy to meet you, but the booking will generally end at the originally scheduled time.
If I am late, I will either extend the booking by the corresponding amount of time when possible, or refund the corresponding time.
Transportation
Good Company does not provide transportation.
Clients are responsible for arranging their own transportation to and from our meeting location. We meet at the destination.
I do not drive clients under any circumstances, and transportation is not something that can be added by separate arrangement.
Walks and outdoor activities
Walks and gentle hikes are intended to be recreational and social, not guided fitness or outdoor-adventure services.
Clients are responsible for choosing activities appropriate for their own physical abilities and comfort level.
Outdoor plans may be changed due to weather, trail conditions, air quality, safety concerns, or other conditions.
A change of plan for any of these reasons does not change the booking fee, and I remain available for the rest of the booked time.
Personal responsibility and safety
Good Company does not provide supervision, medical care, mobility assistance requiring professional training, or personal-care services.
Clients are responsible for their own health decisions, medications, personal belongings, purchases, and ability to safely participate in an activity.
If an emergency occurs, I may contact 911 or another appropriate emergency service if I reasonably believe assistance is needed.
Conduct and boundaries
Good Company is strictly platonic.
Romantic, sexual, or physically intimate conduct is not part of the service.
Respectful behavior is expected from both client and provider.
A booking may be ended early if there is threatening, harassing, sexually inappropriate, abusive, discriminatory, dangerously intoxicated, or otherwise unsafe behavior.
A serious boundary or safety violation may result in refusal of future bookings.
How an early ending affects the booking fee is set out under Cancellations and refunds.
Alcohol
Moderate alcohol consumption as part of a restaurant, concert, or social outing is fine when appropriate. I do not drink during outings.
Good Company reserves the right to end an outing if intoxication creates a safety or behavioral concern.
Clients remain responsible for their own alcohol consumption and transportation arrangements.
Third-party venues and services
Many outings take place at businesses, parks, museums, restaurants, theaters, concert venues, public spaces, or other locations operated by third parties.
Good Company is not responsible for third-party cancellations, service quality, accessibility, pricing changes, venue policies, weather closures, lost property, or other circumstances outside its control.
Privacy
Information submitted through the intake or booking process is used only for operating Good Company, communicating with clients, processing bookings, and helping plan appropriate outings.
Personal information will not be sold.
Client stories, names, photographs, or identifying information will not be used publicly for marketing without separate permission.
Photos
There is no expectation that clients will be photographed during an outing.
If I ever want to use a client photograph, testimonial, or story for promotional purposes, I will ask separately, in writing, through the Optional Photo and Testimonial Permission form.
Saying no will never affect your ability to use the service, and you may withdraw permission at any time.
Personal fit
Good Company is intentionally personal.
The goal is for our time together to feel comfortable and enjoyable rather than forced.
Either person may decide at any point that the match is not right for future bookings.
No explanation beyond “I don’t think we’re the right fit” is required.
Changes to these policies
These policies may occasionally be updated as Good Company grows.
The policies in effect at the time a booking is confirmed will apply to that booking. An update never changes the terms of a booking you have already made
